Costume Designer
Sibylle Wallum studied Design for Performance (BAHons of Fine Arts) at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. From 2011 to 2014 she worked as a Costume Assistant at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg. She also assisted Frida Parmeggiani for several months, including on Robert Wilson’s “St John Passion” at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
She then began working as a freelance costume designer with directors such as Anne Lenk, Jette Steckel, Anna Bergmann, David Hermann, Jan Philipp Glogger and Thorleifur Arnarsson. She has designed costumes for theatres like the Burgtheater Vienna, Residenztheater Munich, Thalia Theater Hamburg, Staatsschauspiel Hannover, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Stadttheater Bern, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Staatstheater Karlsruhe and Theater Bonn, as well as for the Bayreuth Festival, Munich State Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Volksoper Wien and Oper Köln.
She has worked closely with director Anne Lenk for many years. Their productions of “Der Menschenfeind” and “Maria Stuart” at Deutsches Theater Berlin were invited to the Theatertreffen in 2020 and 2021. In the critics’ survey conducted by the magazine Theater Heute, Sibylle Wallum was named Costume Designer of the Year 2021 for the costume design of “Maria Stuart”, directed by Anne Lenk, and nominated for the FAUST 2022 for the costume design of “Pippi Longstocking”, directed by Jette Steckel.
