Green Event
RING AWARD 25 as a Green Event

The RING AWARD 25 meets the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel for Green Events!
This marks a strong commitment to sustainability in the cultural sector, demonstrating that artistic excellence and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
What are Green Events?
Green Events are events that take into account ecological, social, economic, and cultural sustainability in a comprehensive way and actively support the implementation of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
They show that sustainable living isn’t about doing without, but about gaining lasting value through smart concepts and responsible choices.

What makes the RING AWARD 25 a Green Event?
At RING AWARD 25, we focus on:
• Reducing environmental impact through climate-friendly mobility
-
- We encourage the use of trains, buses, or bicycles. Our venues, Schauspielhaus Graz and Next Liberty, are very well connected to public transport. More details on getting there can be found HERE.
- With the Festival Pass, you can travel to the final for free from anywhere in Styria. More information on the “Free Ride” initiative is available HERE.
- Bicycle parking is available directly at both Schauspielhaus and Next Liberty.
• Conserving resources through efficient use and reuse of materials, such as:
-
- Use of reusable dishes
- Use of certified paper for printed materials
- Proper waste separation and waste reduction
• Promoting social inclusion through barrier-free access:
-
- The venues of Bühnen Graz comply with all accessibility standards, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive visit for everyone. More information can be found HERE.
• Supporting the regional economy through partnerships with local businesses:
-
- We rely on regional, seasonal, and fairly produced (organic) food that not only tastes great but is also sustainable.
- As part of our Green Event concept, we collaborate with selected Graz-based companies, including:
– Der Eissalon, known for handmade ice cream using regional ingredients
– Makava, a fair-trade organic iced tea from Styria
– Van den Berg, a regional producer of high-quality organic herbs and spices
• Transparency & Feedback:
-
- Want to share your feedback? Your input helps us further improve quality and establish Green Events for the long term.
The RING AWARD 25 proves that cultural events can send a powerful message for sustainability – while inspiring, engaging, and connecting people.
Sustainability On and Behind the Stage
The RING AWARD 25 final takes place at Schauspielhaus Graz. Sustainability is also a focus behind the scenes, both in daily operations and in the design of productions.
Material selection for sets and costumes increasingly considers origin, reusability, and environmental compatibility. Re- and upcycling have become an integral part of the artistic process.
In addition, all Bühnen Graz venues have been awarded the “Ecolabel for Spoken and Music Theatre” and are taking long-term steps to reduce their environmental footprint, including:
- Switching to LED lighting in all venues
- Sourcing electricity from renewable energy
- Adding green facades in the inner courtyard of Schauspielhaus to improve the urban climate
- Operating a photovoltaic system on the roof of the stagecraft workshop
Sustainability Prize – Raising Awareness, Encouraging Responsibility
With the introduction of a Sustainability Prize, the RING AWARD 25 aims to raise awareness among emerging artists about sustainable practices in music theatre production from an early stage.
The award is intended to embed ecological, social, and economic responsibility already in the concept development phase and highlight innovative, future-focused ideas.
The prize, endowed with EUR 2,500 and sponsored by art + event | Theaterservice Graz, was awarded by a six-member expert jury to the team
