Andrea Vilter

Dramaturg, Intendant Schauspielhaus Graz

Andrea Vilter studied Literary and Theatre Studies in Mainz and Berlin. From 1994 to 2000, she worked as a freelance editor for the German publishing house Rowohlt Theater Verlag. In 1999, she received a one-year scholarship at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. From 2001 to 2008, Andrea Vilter worked as a dramaturge at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel in Munich under the directorship of Dieter Dorn. Multiple times she was a jury member at the Stückemarkt of the Berliner Theatertreffen and the Heidelberger Stückemarkt.

From 2003 onwards, she taught drama and directing students at the Otto-Falckenberg-School of Performing Arts in Munich. Moreover, she held a teaching position at the Mozarteum in Salzburg from 2008, followed by a guest professorship at the Berlin Weißensee School of Art from 2012 to 2014.

From 2014 to 2016, Andrea Vilter was head of drama and chief dramaturge at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. From 2016, she worked as professor of Directing as well as Dramaturgy at the Berlin Weißensee School of Art. Additionally, she worked as a freelance dramaturge at Burgtheater Vienna, Wiener Festwochen, Salzburg Festival (for the world premiere of Peter Handke’s “Zdenek Adamec” in 2020), and most recently for the opening production of Lotte der Beer’s directorship at the Volksoper in Vienna, “Die Dubarry”.

Since the beginning of the season 2023/24, Andrea Vilter has been the Managing Director of Schauspielhaus Graz and since 2024 she has been on the newly founded Board of Directors as well as in the jury of the RING AWARD 25.
