Born in Cologne in 1966, Iris Laufenberg studied “Theatre, Drama and Media” at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. From 1991 to 1997 she was a member of the artistic direction and theatrical dramaturgy team at Schauspiel Bonn, transferring to a similar role in 1997 at the Bremer Theater. In 1996 she was curator and organizational lead of the Bonn Biennial European Festival, taking over the artistic direction of the festival from 2001 to 2002. From 2002 to 2011 she managed the Berlin Festspiele Theatertreffen, and from 2012 to 2015 she was the Theatre Director at the Bern Concert Theatre, responsible for the theatre programme of this multi-disciplinary venue.
In addition to classical repertory, Iris Laufenberg is an ardent supporter of new European drama. Since the 2015-2016 artistic season, Iris Laufenberg is the General Manager of Schauspielhaus Graz, where she continues to marry interpretations of the classics with contemporary drama.
